Some time ago, I was asked by the folks at Lazerian, a Manchester-based creative practice, to design a print for a project involving their mascot: a dog named Gerald. Along with 50 other artists and illustrators, I created a pattern to customise a limited edition Gerald, which will be sold as a kit and then is built to make a paper sculpture.
The idea for the pattern I designed came from reading about the Canis Major 'Greater Dog' star constellation. The project interestingly came along while I was thinking a lot about patterns. I wanted this one to remain quite fragmented and dispersed, to emulate the randomness of a star constellation.
The customised Gerald sculptures will soon be part of an exhibition, more on this soon
