Tonight NOTHING BUT NAVY opening

The NOTHING BUT NAVY Christmas Pop Up in Stroud opens this evening. If you happen to be around Stroud tonight or any night until Christmas eve, go and have a peruse, the shop is crammed full of lovely things, all made with love in shades of Navy blue.

I am selling navy screen printed cards seen above, in packs of 3, each with a snippet of a different Christmas carol. There is also screen printed wrapping paper and some original screen prints. PLUS lots of other things for sale from many many clever people. A selection of the products will also be available to buy online, more information on the lovely Navy website.

75 Peters

Sir Peter Cook is an iconic British architect, founder of Archigram and former director of the ICA.

I am involved in an exhibition along with 74 other illustrators to commemorate his birthday. Each illustrator was invited to create a portrait of Sir Peter, which all will be auctioned for the charity Architecture For Humanity. My contribution, which you can see above, is a screen print.

'75 Peters' is curated by the Adam and Eve Project in partnership with Sir Peter and begins on 26th October in Brisbane- details above. As you can see the line up for the show is fantastic with some brilliant illustrators: Mike Perry, Andrew Rae and Ian Wright among many many more involved.

Pan Tone

Earlier this year I was approached by the German musician Haushcka to create an image for his forthcoming album 'Pan Tone'. It was Released last month by Berlin record label Sonic Pieces: a label which focuses on releasing handmade and limited edition CDs and EPs.

The album is a musical collaboration between Haushcka, an experimental pianist and Hildur Guðnadóttir an Icelandic cellist, and was originally recorded when the duo performed in 2010 as part of Arctic Circle - Bubbly Blue and Green festival at Kings Place in London.

Each composition is named after a different Pantone colour, each a different colour of the sea, and so the design of the EP and illustration follow in this theme. I produced an illustration for the inlay using only two of the Pantone colours from the album, plus black. The image is inspired by the Leviathan sea monster myth.

There is a limited number of the EP and CDs, each embossed and numbered, hand bound and beautifully designed by Sonic Pieces.

Grey Magazine

Grey Magazine is an biannual fashion Magazine. It's 5th issue for AW11/12 is out now, and I was asked to create two illustrations to accompany a collection of poems by JM Parham themed around London, seen here above.

I will always love working for magazines like Grey- aside from it's design, it combines literature, fashion and illustration in such an innovative way.

I have posted some photos of the issue below just because I was so impressed with the quality of imagery featured. For me the stand-out features are a fantastic photographic story by Todd Hido about the New York public library, and Julie Verhoeven's contribution, both of which are artists I hugely admire.

Hello, I realise I haven't written anything on here for a long while. Summer is a strange old time I think, everything slightly grinds to a halt. Anyway I have been working on some nice projects over the past couple of months, including work for Grey Magazine, Hauschka and Berlin record label Sonic Pieces and currently working on some pieces for upcoming exhibitions.

I also went to Morocco on the train.

More of that to come soon. In the meantime, and on a totally unrelated subject here are some pictures of some really very nice shop fronts I took in France earlier in the summer.

Book Covers

Some favourite book covers from my collection. I have a large and ever growing collection of the Bibliothèque Verte Hachette children's books- I like the very idiosyncratic 1940s illustration and heavy typeface combination.
I think I'd like one day to have the Woodland Birds Penguin cover made into a wallpaper. The owl print is magnificent.

Adam and Eve

My road became shamelessly patriotic on Friday 29th and had a raucous street party, here are some pictures.

In other news I was recently invited to join the Adam and Eve project, an new online web broadcast, where a community of artists, writers and musicians feature their work, updates and collaborate with one another.
